Christian P. Fonss is a shareholder in the San Diego office of Klinedinst PC and Co-Chair of the firm’s Corporate and Securities and Transactional and M&A practice groups. Prior to joining Klinedinst, Mr. Fonss practiced corporate and securities law with a large national law firm in its Washington, DC and San Diego offices. He then left big law to found his own boutique practice that concentrated on business law, including mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, corporate governance, Securities Exchange Act compliance, leasing, general corporate matters and business counseling, and the drafting and negotiation of all types of contracts and corporate documents. In 2013, Mr. Fonss was selected by his peers and honored in The Daily Transcript as a San Diego Top Attorney in Corporate Transactional Law. In 2014, Mr. Fonss was recognized as “Best of the Bar” by the San Diego Business Journal.
Mr. Fonss’ practice includes counseling a wide variety of clients ranging from entrepreneurs starting their first business to large public companies. He has extensive experience advising business entities in connection with corporate formation, raising of capital, contractual matters, business combinations and acquisitions.
Mr. Fonss has negotiated complex merger and acquisition transactions, leases and a variety of corporate and commercial agreements on behalf of his clients, including license agreements and supply agreements. He also assists clients with respect to corporate governance matters and in complying with the state and federal securities laws.
Mr. Fonss received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boston College. His J.D. degree was conferred by The George Washington University Law School, where he was a member of the George Washington International Law Review. He is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia (inactive).
In the legal community, Mr. Fonss is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). He is a member of the ABA’s Committees on Mergers & Acquisitions, Middle Market and Small Business, Private Equity and Venture Capital and State Regulation of Securities.
Mr. Fonss currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Business Executives Council. Mr. Fonss has also served in various civic and charitable organizations in San Diego. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rancho Bernardo Kiwanis Club and has also volunteered his time for The Miracle League of San Diego, a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for children with disabilities to participate in an organized baseball league.
