Kathy B. Chen is Senior Counsel and the professional malpractice group’s designated law and motion attorney.
An experienced litigator, she focused for many years on representing individuals and companies in white collar criminal investigations, including antitrust, securities fraud and public corruption matters. She worked an associate first at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel in New York and then at the now-defunct Testa Hurwitz in Boston. At those firms, Mrs. Chen gained extensive court experience in pro bono matters, representing indigent tenants and political asylum seekers.
She also worked as a prosecutor with the Massachusetts’ Attorney General’s Office’s Corruption, Fraud & Computer Crimes Unit, arguing her own cases before grand juries and courts and assisting with the office’s prolonged investigation of the Boston Archdiocese. Upon moving to San Diego, Mrs. Chen worked for many years as an independent contractor for Coughlan, Semmer & Lipman (and its successor firm Coughlan, Semmer, Fitch & Pott).
She has authored one comic novel, Crimes Against A Book Club, due to be published by Lake Union Publishing in May 2017. She spends her free time as an unpaid personal assistant to her four challenging children.
