SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Phillip E. Stephan, Senior Counsel in Klinedinst’s San Diego office, has announced his candidacy for a seat on the 2022 Board of Directors of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA). There are four “at-large” director positions up for election, with each Director serving a three-year term through 2025.
Mr. Stephan has been an active member of the SDCBA since he began practicing law nine years ago. He chaired the Business & Corporate Section from 2018 to 2020 and has been deeply invested in leadership of the section from 2015. In addition to being a leader within the organization, he has served on several SDCBA committees, including the Strategic Framework Working Group and the Programs, Education, and Technology Committee.
“If elected, I will prioritize initiatives that keep you practicing to the best of your ability, such as wellness content and the prioritization of practices that enrich our lives as lawyers and leaders,” said Mr. Stephan, whose goal is to connect law students and lawyers that have recently passed the bar exam with the 122-year-old organization. “New lawyers can provide valuable insights into wellness, diversity and inclusion, and mentoring – topics that require additional focus and insight from all SDCBA members. In light of these objectives, I initiated a program in which section leadership visited law schools to introduce the SDCBA and begin to establish a relationship with the next generation of SDCBA members.”
A community-oriented professional liability attorney, Mr. Stephan aims to give back by contributing to the legal community’s future. He also makes a deliberate effort to promote wellness practices to integrate health and mental care into our operations, which he deems essential. He finds it significant to collaborate within the SDCBA, as well as with other legal organizations throughout San Diego. He considers the legal profession to be a source of personal pride that demands civility, integrity, and professionalism.
“We are very proud of Phil’s history of service and commitment to the legal community,” said Heather Rosing, CEO of Klinedinst and Past President of the SDCBA. “Phil is the embodiment of integrity and professionalism and would be an excellent addition to the leadership of our local bar.”
Outside of the SDCBA, Mr. Stephan is an active member of San Diego Defense Lawyers, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Welsh Inn of Court, San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, and San Diego Lawyers’ Club. He has a wealth of experience establishing comprehensive growth and business development plans, as well as presenting strategic option models for implementation.
Online voting for the Board of Directors positions begins October 13, 2021, and lasts until November 12, 2021. Members can vote online by logging in to the SDCBA Election website, and all SDCBA attorney members are eligible to vote.
