Sunny S. Sarkis is an Associate in the Sacramento office of Klinedinst PC. At Klinedinst, Ms. Sarkis represents clients in the real estate, commercial, and consumer lending industries. Her experience involves defending her clients against alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), the Truth in Lending Act (“TILA”), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (“RESPA”), the state and federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (“RFDCPA” and “FDCPA”), and the California Homeowner Bill of Rights (“HBOR”). Ms. Sarkis defends banks and other lending institutions in cases alleging statutory and common law violations associated with lending, loan servicing, and debt collection practices.
Ms. Sarkis is admitted to practice in California and Washington, where she has honed her experience litigating agribusiness, environmental, viticulture, bankruptcy, and employment disputes for national and international clients. In addition to general business litigation, Ms. Sarkis was a litigation associate in the San Francisco office of the largest federal securities class action firm in the United States, representing plaintiffs, including institutional investors, unions, and private individuals. Ms. Sarkis has litigated federal securities class actions in New York City, Newark, Dallas, and Spokane.
While living in San Francisco, Ms. Sarkis served for several years as a grader for the California Bar Exam. She likewise served as a grader for high school mock trials in San Mateo County. During her time in San Francisco, Ms. Sarkis was a member of the Women in Securities Law Association, the San Francisco County Bar Association, and the San Mateo County Bar Association. During her free time, Ms. Sarkis volunteered at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.
In Sacramento, Ms. Sarkis voluntarily provides legal assistance to the Sacramento community. She currently serves on the Pro Bono Committee of the Sacramento County Bar Association (“SCBA”). In addition, Ms. Sarkis provides legal assistance to indigent members of the Sacramento legal community through the “Lawyers in the Library” program offered by the Sacramento Voluntary Legal Services Program (“VLSP”). Ms. Sarkis mentors, both formally and informally, newly admitted lawyers and law students. In 2019, Ms. Sarkis received a Mentor of the Year Award for her work. Ms. Sarkis has likewise enjoyed visiting local elementary schools on Law Day to encourage elementary school children to pursue legal careers.
Ms. Sarkis earned her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated with distinction in the top 9th percentile of her class. For The McGeorge Law Review, Ms. Sarkis served as a Primary Managing Editor and a member of the Comment Staff. She was a member of several honor societies, including the Order of the Coif, the Dean’s Honor List, and the Traynor Honor Society. In 2008, Ms. Sarkis was awarded the Best Primary Managing Editor award by the McGeorge Law Review. During her second year, The California Office of the Attorney General awarded Ms. Sarkis with a Civil Rights Fellowship.
Ms. Sarkis received Witkin Awards for earning the highest grades in International Banking Law and Entertainment Law. Significantly, Ms. Sarkis earned the Kamal Ramsey Sadek Memorial Scholarship for demonstrating the spirit of generosity toward others, an award for which she is particularly proud.
