Derek Sturhann is a Summer Law Clerk in the San Diego office of Klinedinst PC. Mr. Sturhann currently attends the University of San Diego School of Law, where he is a 2024 Juris Doctor Candidate. In addition to his studies, Mr. Sturhann serves as the treasurer for Consumer Attorney of USD and a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association.
At the USD School of law, he works as the Academic Fellow for Civil Procedure, where he acts a resource for USD law students to develop effective and efficient law school study skills and strategies. Additionally, he works as a Research Assistant for several professors and is working on the USPTO’s Patent Litigation Docket Reports Dataset to create a database of all patent lawsuits that have been filed since 2003.
Before attending law school, Mr. Sturhann graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. While a student, he participated in many music groups, including the university orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz band, and jazz combo group. In addition to these university music groups, Mr. Sturhann participated in the Small Band Programs Intercollegiate Band and Western Division Intercollegiate Band. He was also heavily involved with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, where he helped teach and promote STEM to Hispanic students in San Jose.
While attending Santa Clara University, Mr. Sturhann worked as a legal assistant at GQ Law, a small tax and estate law firm in San Diego. Additionally, he worked as a professional jazz musician, performing alto saxophone in a jazz combo at events across San Diego County.
In his free time, Mr. Sturhann enjoys playing the saxophone and going to the movies.
