Marquis Stepteau is a litigation associate in the Irvine office of Klinedinst PC, where his practice focuses on business torts, commercial litigation, and financial services litigation. Mr. Stepteau encompasses a strong ability to draft motions, complaints, and briefs, and has successfully argued motions to secure favorable rulings. In previous roles, he handled complex business disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, defamation, and real estate matters. Mr. Stepteau also served as a Civil Rights Litigation Clinical Student, where he engaged directly with matters involving California’s Unfair Competition Law and Fourth Amendment claims, and assisted professors in preparing oral arguments
His legal journey is marked by a commitment to excellence, earning him recognition through various awards throughout his education. Mr. Stepteau earned his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Irvine School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor for the UC Irvine Law Review and participated in moot court competitions. His academic achievements include the Faculty Award for his performance in the Civil Rights Litigation Clinic and the Dean’s Award in the Law of Sales course and the Advanced Civil Rights Litigation Clinic. During his time in law school, he published a notable article titled “Releasing the Caged Bird: A Case for Twitter as A Common Carrier” and honed his skills in civil rights and consumer protection law.
Mr. Stepteau’s experience is complemented by his externship with the Honorable Nathan R. Scott at the Orange County Superior Court, where he researched and prepared memoranda on a range of legal issues. His work with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office provided him with insights into criminal law, and his pro bono efforts for the Afghan Scholars Project showcase his commitment to social justice. Mr. Stepteau was also elected to be a research fellow for a Professor, where he assisted first-year law students in the legal research and writing course.
A proud graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Stepteau received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, graduating magna cum laude, and was recognized on the Dean’s List, ranking in the top 10% of his class.
Mr. Stepteau is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and has interests that include cryptocurrency, capital markets, football, writing, and mentoring through Christian Fellowship.
