Kelly Hsu is an associate in Klinedinst PC’s Los Angeles office, where her practice focuses on business litigation and complex commercial disputes. Drawing on a unique background as in-house counsel in the financial services industry, Ms. Hsu brings a practical, business-oriented perspective to litigation matters involving regulatory compliance, contractual disputes, risk management, and corporate governance.
Prior to joining Klinedinst, Ms. Hsu served as corporate counsel for a registered investment adviser managing approximately $15 billion in assets. In that role, she advised on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters affecting sophisticated financial institutions, including SEC compliance, regulatory risk, private fund operations, privacy and cybersecurity, commercial contracts, employment-related matters, and enterprise governance. She also managed complex, document-intensive disputes involving contractual conflicts, fee disputes, client complaints, regulatory escalations, and other business disputes, partnering with senior leadership to develop strategic, risk-conscious solutions while minimizing legal and business risk.
Ms. Hsu’s experience also includes implementing company-wide compliance and privacy programs, advising on insurance, cybersecurity, employment-related, and regulatory matters, and leading legal initiatives involving new investment products, vendor relationships, and contract lifecycle management. Her broad in-house experience gives her insight into the legal and business considerations that often underlie commercial disputes, allowing her to provide practical, strategic representation to financial institutions and businesses alike.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Hsu advised real estate investors on transactional matters, served in Seattle University’s Trademark Law Clinic assisting clients with trademark prosecution and Office Action responses, and gained litigation experience through legal internships focused on bankruptcy, fraud, legal research, and client advocacy.
Ms. Hsu earned her J.D. from Seattle University School of Law, where she completed a Business Law Specialization and was recognized as a Washington State Scholar. She received her B.A., cum laude, in Business Management and Law from Seattle University.
