Community Spotlight

California MBA

Klinedinst is honored to shine a spotlight on the organizations making a difference in our community. One of those organizations that we are proud to feature is the California Mortgage Bankers Association.

California Mortgage Bankers Association (California MBA) is a nonprofit organization, and is the only statewide organization dedicated to representing the residential and commercial real estate finance industry before all government and regulatory agencies. The California MBA encourages and promotes sound business practices and honesty in marketing, origination, lending, and servicing of mortgage loans through our educational and networking opportunities.

California MBA conducts educational seminars and meetings for an on behalf of its members. Their conferences and other events give participants a great opportunity for connection building in the industry and make lasting and valuable relationships, both professional and personal. With major annual conferences covering secondary marketing, loan servicing, and the commercial/multifamily industry, one day conferences and workshops throughout the year, and the Future Leaders Program, California MBA is committed to professional developments. Klinedinst Shareholder Ian A. Rambarran has served in a number of roles within the organization, including CMBA Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Committee Chair, Chair of the Legal Issues Committee and Co-Chair of the Legal Issues Conference. Mr. Rambarran and Elliot Johnson are also regular contributors to the California MBA’s California Mortgage Finance News, on topics such as analyses of executive orders and legislative changes to residential and commercial/multi-family mortgage banking.

California MBA also serves its membership by representing their legislative and regulatory interests before the California Legislature, the Governor’s Office, the Department of Business Oversight, the Bureau of Real Estate and other regulatory agencies. California MBA also works closely with the Mortgage Bankers Association in Washington D.C. to provide support, guidance and expertise on federal issues impacting business in California.

Major Programs

CAMPAC: CAMPAC, the California MBA’s political action committee, raises funds to specifically support candidates for the California State Legislature. Through CAMPAC, the California Mortgage Bankers Association is able to increase visibility on the California political scene by supporting more candidates who understand the significant role that the real estate finance industry plays in the state’s overall economy. This committee strives to play a larger role in the election process in California at this critical time in history.

Future Leaders Program: Participants in the California MBA Future Leaders Program benefit from a transformative, customized academic and leadership experience through a partnership with Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Business School. The program also brings participants to a host of CMBA conferences and events, broadening their range of knowledge and skills. The program connects participants with multiple mentors in the industry, further increasing their network and returning them a more valuable employee and a true leader to their company.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee: The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee was established in 2021 to address the risks and barriers to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and tangible steps that CMBA members can take to overcome them. This committee was spearheaded by Klinedinst’s Ian Rambarran, who currently serves as the inaugural Chair. The committee is a continuation of the CMBA’s goal to support the real estate finance industry’s diverse audiences and members.
