Matthew D. Batista is an Associate in Klinedinst PC’s San Diego office. Mr. Batista advises clients on an array of transactional legal matters including general corporate, mergers & acquisitions, ESG, real property, intellectual property, privacy, and other matters.

Certified Information Privacy Professional / United States

Mr. Batista is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. As part of his practice, he is able to counsel clients on identifying, evaluating, and managing risks associated with privacy and information security practices. 

Mr. Batista is also active in the legal community. He is a Founding Member and current Co-Chair of the California Lawyers Association’s ESG Committee. He also formerly served as Vice Chair of Communications for the American Bar Association’s Section on Environment, Energy, & Resources (SEER), Environmental Disclosure Committee and as a Member of the California Lawyers Association’s Member Engagement Committee.

Before joining Klinedinst, Mr. Batista served in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces member, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the Air Force, Mr. Batista was responsible for nuclear weapon security operations, trained and worked with organizations such as the FBI, CBP, and foreign militaries, and deployed in support of Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom. Following his Air Force service, Mr. Batista graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Financial and Environmental Economics and earned a full merit scholarship to California Western School of Law. While in law school, he earned his LEED Green Associate Certification, was selected as 2020 Presidential Management Fellows Program Finalist through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and eared three American Jurisprudence Awards. Following law school and before joining Klinedinst, Mr. Batista also earned a certificate in Sustainable Capitalism & ESG from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, worked for a local sports agency, and operated his own legal practice.

When not assisting clients, Mr. Batista can often be seen running, paddle boarding, or wine tasting around San Diego County.
