Phillip E. Stephan

Phillip E. Stephan is a member of Klinedinst’s Professional Liability, Employment, and Business and Commercial Litigation practice groups. Prior to joining Klinedinst, Mr. Stephan focused on professional liability, complex business litigation, class actions, antitrust, and unfair competition. Mr. Stephan has also represented startup and established companies, providing counsel regarding corporate governance, capital acquisition, contract drafting, strategic management, litigation, risk management, and intellectual property.

Mr. Stephan serves on the board of directors of Lawyers Club of San Diego, and has been an active member since 2016. He is currently the Assistant Treasurer of Lawyers Club, and serves on the Bench Bar, Trial Advocacy, and Community Service committees. He will be co-chairing the organization’s annual dinner in 2024, having previously served as Co-Chair of the 2023 Red, White & Brew event, and Co-Chair of the Pearls of Wisdom Task Force.

Mr. Stephan also is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA), where he served as Chair of the Business and Corporate Section in from 2018–2020, while also serving on several SDCBA committees, such as the Strategic Framework Working Group and the Programs, Education, and Technology Committee. Mr. Stephan is also a member of San Diego Defense Lawyers, the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Welsh Inn of Court, San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, and San Diego Lawyers’ Club.

Mr. Stephan also worked as the Extern for Legal Affairs and Risk Management at Angels Baseball, LP while attending law school. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Stephan worked in strategic management, creating comprehensive plans to generate growth and business development, and presenting strategic option models for implementation.

Mr. Stephan attended the University of San Diego, graduating with a J.D./M.B.A. in 2011. Mr. Stephan attended the University of Southern California for his undergraduate education, earning a B.A. in Global Business with a minor in Advertising.
