The Annual Red Boudreau Dinner first took place in 1984, and this year marks its 37th anniversary. The Daniel T. Broderick III Award is presented at each dinner to a trial attorney who exemplifies the highest degree of civility, dedication, and professionalism. SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – The 37th Annual Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Dinner, held at the US Grant this year and attended by over 300 guests, honored Heather L. Rosing by presenting her with the 2021 Daniel T. Broderick III Award. Inspired by local San Diego legend Maurice “Red” Boudreau, this event represents an all-star celebration in our legal community. The American Board of Trial Advocates, Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, and San Diego Defense Lawyers annually host the dinner to honor one lawyer who has made a significant difference in the legal community and practice of law.
Ms. Rosing’s tremendous accomplishments span two and a half decades. Deeply dedicated to her clients and her practice, Ms. Rosing has a national reputation for her experience and skill in litigating complex malpractice and fraud cases, as well as advising in the areas of ethics and risk management. In addition to serving as a longtime leader of KPC’s Professional Liability and Ethics team, Ms. Rosing was elected as the firm’s CEO at the end of 2020. In its 38-year history, Ms. Rosing is the first female CEO of the company. Ms. Rosing has been highlighted locally and nationally for her cutting-edge efforts to mentor tomorrow’s lawyers, improve diversity in her firm and in the profession, and modernize the practice of law.
A true volunteer, Ms. Rosing has dedicated her time and passion for helping others and serving in a variety of positions, including President of the San Diego County Bar Association, Vice President of the State Bar of California, the inaugural President of the California Lawyers Association, the President of California ChangeLawyers, and President of the California Bar Foundation. Through these roles and others, she contributed to the dialogue and agenda of increasing access to justice, diversifying the profession, promoting civic education about the judicial branch of government, and driving civility, integrity, and professionalism in the practice of law. She has received numerous rewards and accolades for her selfless contributions. Most recently, Ms. Rosing has served as a co-vice chair of the statewide Civility Task Force, which has recently issued concrete recommendations for promoting civility.
Ms. Rosing was named to the Daily Journal‘s list of the Top 100 Lawyers in California for 2021, following her receipt of that recognition in 2018-2020, and her selection as Top Lawyer of the Decade in 2020. This August, in recognition of her skill and sophistication as a legal malpractice specialist, Ms. Rosing was named a 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” in the field of Legal Malpractice Law in San Diego.
The annual Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Dinner draws attorneys, judges, and legal community partners from all over the region to honor the finest in our legal community. Brian Rawers of Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company serves as the Dinner Chairman. Steven Boudreau, Red’s son, also hosts the dinner in honor of his father’s legacy. In the 1950s, Red was an officer of the San Diego County Bar Association, a Past President of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego, and a loyal member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Many consider the Daniel T. Broderick III Award as the pinnacle of honors for a San Diego attorney.
The proceeds from the Red Boudreau Dinner benefit a well-known San Diego charity, Father Joe’s Villages. The money raised goes directly to programs and practices that fund development for homeless children and families. The goal is to give back to the community and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
