Heather L. Rosing to Receive the 2022 Hon. David H. Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – The United States District Court for the Southern District of California has announced that Klinedinst CEO and President Heather L. Rosing will be the 2022 recipient of the Hon. David H. Bartick Award for Civility and Professionalism.

The Hon. David H. Bartick Award is named after Magistrate Judge Bartick, a federal jurist who was respected in the San Diego legal community for his civility and professionalism. In its recent press release, the Court said, “what really set him apart was his courtesy, warmth, and integrity.” To honor his legacy of integrity, the Court established the Bartick Award with a permanent plaque in The James M. Carter and Judith N. Keep United States Courthouse. The display includes a remembrance of Hon. David H. Bartick, and lists the names of the recipients of the award given in his memory.

Ms. Rosing has been licensed to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California since 1997. During that time, the Court noted, “her character, her demeanor, and her interactions with other officers of the Court are grounded in a deep appreciation for the institution and the importance of the rule of law. Heather has earned the universal respect of the San Diego legal community due to her devotion to improving the legal profession.”

In addition to her work promoting civility through service with organizations like the San Diego County Bar Association and the California Lawyers Association, the Court also recognized Ms. Rosing’s service as co-Vice Chair of the California Civility Task Force. The California Civility Task Force is a collaboration between the State Bar of California, California Lawyers Association, and California Judges Association to promote civility in the law. In September of 2021, the Task Force issued an initial report on the decline of civility, offering tangible improvements and changes that could be made within the profession to encourage professional discourse within the profession. The Task Force has made recommendations to the State Bar that include mandating CLE devoted to civility training, support to judges to help curtail incivility, and substantive changes to State Bar disciplinary rules.

Ms. Rosing will be honored by the Court at a special ceremony on October 26, 2022. To learn more about Ms. Rosing, please visit:
