Kristin N. Blake is a member of the firm’s Real Estate, Construction, Land Use, Employment, and Environmental practice groups. Based in Sacramento, Ms. Blake regularly represents corporate and insurance clients in litigation involving land use, real estate, professional liability, and construction. She has worked with a wide-range of regulatory agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board of Central Valley, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Ms. Blake contributes to the legal community as a member of the California Lawyers Association, the Sacramento County Bar Association, and Women Lawyers of Sacramento.

Emily J. Atherton

Emily J. Atherton is a Shareholder based out of Los Angeles who helps clients in a variety of practice areas, including employment litigation, product liability, premises liability, asbestos litigation, construction defect litigation, and general liability matters. She has worked on cases involving allegations of design, manufacturing, and warning defects, as well as class action litigation and PAGA claims. She works tirelessly for her clients in matters concerning harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, and wage and hour issues. Ms. Atherton is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section.

Dan Lawton

Dan Lawton brings over 30 years of experience in civil trial work, complex commercial and intellectual property litigation, as well as civil appeals. He is a Certified Legal Specialist in Appellate Law by the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization. From his office in San Diego, Mr. Lawton works regularly with both corporate and individual clients, including pharmaceutical companies, life sciences companies, landowners and property developers, bankers, politicians, professional athletes and coaches, attorneys, accountants, entrepreneurs, and entertainers. He helps counsel clients on cases involving patent infringement, copyright infringement, trade secret theft, unfair competition, defamation, and business torts. Mr. Lawton has been recognized since 2009 by San Diego Super Lawyers in the primary practice area of intellectual property litigation. He is a member of San Diego County Bar Association’s Appellate Courts Committee and the Editorial Board for California Litigation, the official publication for California Lawyer’s Association.

James D. Snyder

James D. Snyder is the lead Shareholder of Klinedinst’s Corporate Transactional and Securities, Privacy and Data Security, and Mergers and Acquisitions practice groups. He and his team advise business clients, from startups to large multinational business enterprises, on legal and regulatory business matters, in many instances as Outside General Counsel. James represents clients on U.S. and cross border M&A, data privacy and security, business financing and investment portfolios, corporate structuring, SaaS and software licensing matters, and intellectual property transactions. Mr. Snyder has been at the forefront of data privacy, advising clients on the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

W. Jason Scott

W. Jason Scott practices in the areas of business and commercial litigation, as well as financial products and services. He works with the firm’s corporate clients, focusing primarily on business, professional liability, and land use/environmental issues. Located in Sacramento, Mr. Scott represents professionals and entities in a wide array of liability, contract, and appellate matters. He has tremendous experience defending contractors and utilities in construction defect litigation, including premises liability, construction site injury, and general litigation matters. He also has involvement litigating disputes concerning land use and environmental issues, such as eminent domain, inverse condemnation, and soil and ground water contamination. Mr. Scott served in the United States Navy as a diver from 1992-1996, earning several medals, awards, and honors.

Natasha Mayat

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Klinedinst announced today that it has once again become a National Corporate Donor for Toys for Tots. This marks the 12th consecutive year the firm has supported the US Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, which delivers holiday cheer to children across the country.

Klinedinst serves as a National Corporate Donor for the 2021 Toys for Tots program.

Toys for Tots dates back to 1947, when Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks and his wife were looking for a way to help kids in need for the holidays. Upon learning that no organization was setup to help distribute toys to children, Hendricks, who worked at Warner Bros. enlisted the help of friends in Hollywood, as well as local area Marines, to collect and distribute 5,000 toys that first year. 

Following the success of the first year’s toy drive, the Commandant directed all Marine Reserve units to launch their own Toys for Tots campaigns in their communities. One of their most famous proponents was Walt Disney, who designed a poster featuring Toys for Tots’ iconic train logo that is still in use. Today, Toys for Tots is active in over 800 communities, helping to bring holiday cheer to disadvantaged children across all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. 

In 2021, the organization continues to face unprecedented pressure brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to rising prices for toys and gifts, supply chain issues and drop-off closures have created additional challenges, particularly on the the Foundation’s signature toy collection program.

“The truth is, we have a critical shortage of toys going into the Christmas season,” said retired Marine Colonel Ted Silvester, Vice President for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. “Many American families are struggling to make ends meet, and many parents will be unable to provide even a single gift for their children this Christmas,” without the help of Toys for Tots, its donors, and its volunteers.

To help encourage toy donations in the midst of a pandemic, Toys for Tots is encouraging individuals to participate in its virtual ”Fill the Box” toy drive. Donors can experience the same joy of giving by selecting a toy online, purchasing it, and then placing the hand-picked toy in a virtual collection box. Toys are organized by age, and Toys for Tots will use the donation in areas where the need is greatest. For those that prefer to give a physical toy, Toys for Tots is also collecting toys locally from hundreds of toy box locations.

The new Klinedinst Los Angeles space features a wide open floor plan, high ceilings, flexible hoteling offices for employees and clients, and state-of-the-art conference facilities.

Gone is the static reception area, stale carpeting, and the hundreds of books that took up space in the law library. In fact, the law library, a mainstay of many legal offices for decades, has been completely replaced with digital resources that can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere.

“Our new office introduces cutting-edge technology and a modern layout designed for both in-person and remote team members,” said Robert Hatem, Managing Shareholder of Klinedinst Los Angeles. “While the footprint itself is smaller, the efficiency and the design we have created make the space feel so much bigger. We are excited to share this new office experience with both employees and clients alike.”

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA – Klinedinst welcomes attorney Ted S. Wolter to the Sacramento office. Mr. Wolter represents clients in business and environmental litigation.

In addition to his significant litigation experience, Mr. Wolter has twelve years of experience as Chief of Staff to a member of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. In this position, he gained extensive experience in environmental, local agency, regulatory, and related legal matters. He has also dealt with the Great Recession’s revenue- and service-related impacts on the County of Sacramento’s operations.

As Chief of Staff, Mr. Wolter influenced and communicated public policy decision-making through internal and external coalition building, complex advocacy campaigns, engaging business and community leaders. By partnering with management and front-line officers in state and local law enforcement agencies, Mr. Wolter maximized community confidence in public safety. He is able to leverage this experience in identifying concerns and obstacles for his clients, providing counsel on solutions for overcoming those challenges.

Within the community, Mr. Wolter serves as Vice-Chair of the California Highway Patrol. He assists with leadership in providing a citizens’ voice directly to the California Highway Patrol Commissioner on matters of public safety and law enforcement policy. He is also a member of the Fair Oaks Planning Commission, where he helps develop land use plans and assess environmental impacts.

Mr. Batista joins with significant experience in transactional practice areas, including corporate, intellectual property, sustainability, and real estate matters. Before joining the firm, he handled transactions for businesses, non-profits, athletes, entertainers, and other professionals.

Mr. Batista is a former Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force as a Security Forces member. He oversaw nuclear weapon security operations and trained with national security organizations such as the FBI, CBP, and foreign militaries. He also deployed in support of Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom, both of which were counter-terrorism missions. His military experience has helped him be flexible and adapt to any situation, a trait that serves clients well in the transactional and mergers and acquisitions areas.

Following his service in the military, Mr. Batista was awarded a full merit scholarship to California Western School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. During law school, he was honored with three American Jurisprudence Awards, obtained his LEED Green Associate certification, and was selected as a 2020 Presidential Management Fellows Program finalist through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Mr. Batista currently sits as Vice-Chair of the Environmental Disclosure Committee for the American Bar Association’s Section on Energy, Environment, and Resources. He understands the complexities of environmental law as well as how to develop innovative solutions to environmental issues. Mr. Batista also contributes to the California Lawyers Association (CLA), a 100,000-member organization that promotes professional advancement of attorneys practicing in California.
